Fifth Posting

October 2, 2013

It's been an exciting first month at King's!

I started on campus at the end of August- first working with student leadership, then first year registration, move-in and orientation, and during the first week of classes, spent most days in the cafeteria meeting first year students, reconnecting with returning students, meeting some of the faculty and staff.

The following two weeks, I met more specifically with students returning to the Sunday study, returning one-on-ones, new students who want to engage in one-on-ones. Current count- 3 returning to the Sunday study (1 Timothy) with weekly one-on-ones, 11 weekly one-on-ones not in the study and 6 in Andrew's study. (Andrew is the one I trained last year for B/S leadership and is doing the same study with first years.) I am still confirming other one-on-ones weekly, biweekly and occasionally.

It is a different sense of ministry and I'm learning to be flexible, for sure! Many of the one-on-ones have opted to do 1 Timothy or a book study for our time together, as well as accountability for their spiritual disciplines and other areas of life.

There are some other interesting dynamics this year- first years who have been attending Calvary with their parents; a few who are children of friends of mine or friends of their children; and one who's a former Grade 6 student of mine ("I'll always call you Mr. Foo no matter what names the others use.")

Prayer requests:

That God would direct me to each individual's needs in our times together

That God would empower Andrew as he leads his study and takes over mine during my absence

That students would see Christ-like transformation in their lives through their personal spiritual disciplines and a daily awareness of his presence and the Holy Spirit's prompting

Thanks for all your support in all the many different ways!

God's will be done.

On a personal note, I am going to spend two weeks in Japan starting mid-October. It is disruptive to the work, but an opportunity that I cannot pass on! It is mostly holiday, and a small part ministry.
