Serving Christ With Joy!

August 2015

Dear Friends,

When last I wrote…. I was heading into a summer of unknowns. The only “knowns” I had were- I wasn’t going to Colombia in the summer, that I would have two students living with me, and a trust that God had something better or different. As the summer unfolded, I saw

  • the opportunity to deal with health issues
  • many opportunities to connect with longtime friends from past years
  • attend the weddings of new friends
  • a week’s visit in BC’s lower mainland and two visits to Calgary
  • preparation for the next school term, working with the new VP and Dean of Student Life
  • a summer Bible study with King’s students, in part, as a training tool for upcoming campus leadership

I also pursued some readings this summer- not all finished, but some require more thought and reflection than others….

  • Return of the Prodigal Son
  • The Sacred Search
  • Shaping the Journey of Emerging Adults
  • Instruments in the Redeemer’s Hands
  • Book of Luke from the LifeChange Bible study series

I used my week in Langley in part, as a mini spiritual retreat, doing a lot of reading, studying, and going on extended prayer walks. During those times, God impressed upon me Psalm 127:1

Unless the Lord builds the house,
The labourers build in vain.
Unless the Lord watches over the city,
It’s watchmen stand guard in vain.

A familiar verse for sure and one that has been key in years past. This year with the leadership that’s in place, the potential for Kingdom impact is great! But it must be God’s work, not anything of my own efforts.

Please pray that
  • God would give me many opportunities to meet new and returning students
  • He would lead me to those (new and/or returning students) with a heart to be intentional about their walk with Jesus and to be discipled
  • He would show me how to invest in returning students, particularly those in their final year
Thank you for your support and your interest in the ministry work with the next generation of young men at King’s!

Blessings,

Bob
